Sunrisers Hyderabad chase 244 to beat Mumbai Indians

Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen power SRH to record chase vs MI

Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a stunning run chase in IPL 2026, overhauling a massive 244 against Mumbai Indians to register a six-wicket victory at Wankhede Stadium.

In a high-scoring contest, SRH reached 249 for 4 in 18.4 overs, chasing down MI’s 243 for 5 with eight balls to spare. The result marked their fifth consecutive win and one of the highest successful chases in IPL history.

Rickelton’s record ton sets up MI total

Mumbai Indians opted to bat first for the first time in 22 games at Wankhede and were powered by a sensational unbeaten 123 off 55 balls from Ryan Rickelton — the highest score by an MI batter in IPL history.

He shared a rapid opening stand with Will Jacks, who struck 46, as MI posted 78 in the powerplay. Rickelton brought up his half-century in 23 balls and later reached his maiden IPL century in just 44 deliveries, the fastest by an MI batter.

Despite their strong position at 202 for 3 after 16 overs, SRH pulled things back late. Eshan Malinga returned figures of 1 for 29, while Pat Cummins delivered a tight 17th over without conceding a boundary. MI managed only 41 runs in the final four overs, finishing at 243 for 5.

Head and Abhishek flip the chase early

The tone of the chase was set immediately by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who added 129 runs for the opening wicket. A remarkable 92 of those came in the powerplay, completely shifting momentum.

Abhishek contributed 45, while Head blasted 76, reaching his fifty in just 20 balls. The aggressive approach ensured SRH surged ahead of the required rate early, even as conditions under lights favoured batting.

Brief MI fightback fails to halt SRH surge

Mumbai Indians found a brief opening when Ghazanfar struck twice, removing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in quick succession. Hardik Pandya then dismissed Head, reducing SRH from 129 for 0 to 133 for 3 in a short span.

However, that phase proved only a temporary disruption as Heinrich Klaasen took control of the chase.

Klaasen and Arora seal dominant chase

With the required rate still around 11 per over, Klaasen accelerated decisively. He smashed an unbeaten 65 off 30 balls, including multiple boundaries against both pace and spin, and reached his fifty in just 22 deliveries.

Salil Arora provided the finishing push with an unbeaten 30 off 10 balls, including a sequence of boundaries and sixes that sealed the result emphatically.

SRH completed the chase in the 19th over, registering the highest successful run chase at Wankhede Stadium in IPL history. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, suffered their fourth loss at the venue this season.

What this result means

This victory lifts Sunrisers Hyderabad to third place on the points table and extends their winning streak to five matches, underlining their batting dominance.

Despite Ryan Rickelton’s record-breaking 123, Mumbai Indians remain ninth, with their bowling unable to defend even a total of 243, highlighting the scale of SRH’s chase and their growing momentum in IPL 2026.
