Bangladesh name squad for Pakistan Test Series
Bangladesh have announced their squad for the opening Test against Pakistan, with the match set to begin on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka as part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the side, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz appointed vice-captain for the first Test.
Two uncapped players earn call-ups
The Bangladesh squad includes two uncapped players, Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan, marking a notable selection decision ahead of the series.
Tanzid Hasan brings international experience in limited-overs formats, having played 34 ODIs and 45 T20Is, scoring over 1,900 runs across those formats. This selection presents him with an opportunity to transition into the Test setup.
Amite Hasan, a 24-year-old middle-order batter, earns his maiden call-up following consistent performances in domestic cricket. Since his first-class debut in 2019, he averages 49, highlighting his reliability in longer formats.
Key returns strengthen squad
Bangladesh have also recalled several players to bolster their red-ball setup. Fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam return to the Test squad after last featuring in late 2024.
Spinner Nayeem Hasan also makes a comeback, adding depth to the bowling attack for conditions expected in Dhaka.
The inclusion of returning bowlers alongside uncapped batters indicates a combination of experience and fresh options within the squad.
World Test Championship context
Bangladesh currently sit eighth in the World Test Championship standings. They have played two matches, recording one defeat and one draw, collecting four points with a win percentage of 16.67.
Pakistan, meanwhile, are placed fifth, having registered one win and one loss from their two matches. They have accumulated 12 points with a win percentage of 50.
These standings add further importance to the upcoming Test, with both sides aiming to strengthen their position early in the cycle.
What this selection means
The squad reflects Bangladesh’s attempt to balance continuity with new additions ahead of a key Test at home.
With two uncapped players included and several bowlers returning, the team enters the series with a mix of proven options and fresh opportunities, as they look to improve their standing in the World Test Championship.
