PSL 11 Final: Kingsmen collapse hands Zalmi control
Hyderabad Kingsmen suffered a damaging middle-order collapse to be bowled out for 129 against Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 11 final at the Gaddafi Stadium, leaving the title favourites firmly in control after opting to field first.
Zalmi captain Babar Azam’s decision at the toss was immediately vindicated as his bowlers dismantled the Kingsmen innings, restricting the debutants to 129 in 18 overs.
Early setback followed by brief stability
Kingsmen’s innings began on uncertain footing when Maaz Sadaqat was dismissed for 11 by Mohammad Basit in the second over with the score at 16.
Saim Ayub and Marnus Labuschagne responded with a brisk 35-run stand off 19 deliveries, keeping the scoring rate intact. Labuschagne contributed a quick 20 off 12 balls, striking three fours and a six before Aaron Hardie had him caught behind in the fifth over.
Saim then added 20 runs alongside Usman Khan, but the wicketkeeper batter managed only eight before being trapped lbw by Sufiyan Muqeem in the seventh over.
Collapse triggered by run-outs and pressure
The dismissal of Usman proved decisive. From that point, Kingsmen’s innings unravelled rapidly as they lost three wickets in the space of just eight deliveries, including two run-outs, slipping sharply to 73 for 6 in 7.5 overs.
This phase effectively derailed the innings. The quick succession of wickets halted any momentum and forced Kingsmen into a rebuilding effort rather than acceleration.
Hassan Khan attempted to steady things with a brief 17-run stand alongside Saim Ayub before he was dismissed by Hardie in the 10th over.
Saim holds one end but support fades
Saim Ayub remained the lone resistance through the collapse. He put together cautious partnerships with Hunain Shah and Mohammad Ali but lacked sustained support at the other end.
He eventually fell to Aaron Hardie on the first ball of the 18th over after scoring 54 off 50 deliveries, including five fours and two sixes, finishing as Kingsmen’s top-scorer.
Hardie struck again in the same over, removing Akif Javed for five to complete a dominant bowling display.
Zalmi bowlers seize control
Aaron Hardie led the bowling effort with outstanding figures of 4 for 27 in his four overs, repeatedly breaking partnerships and closing out the innings.
Nahid Rana supported with two wickets, while Sufiyan Muqeem and Mohammad Basit claimed one each to ensure Kingsmen were unable to recover after the early collapse.
The defining phase of the innings came immediately after Usman Khan’s dismissal, where the combination of pressure and run-outs led to a rapid loss of wickets that Kingsmen could not recover from.
What this means for the final
Being bowled out for 129 after choosing to bat first places Hyderabad Kingsmen under significant pressure in the PSL 11 final.
For Peshawar Zalmi, the disciplined bowling performance has created a clear opportunity to capitalise on their early dominance, with the modest target reflecting how effectively they controlled the middle overs.
