Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd ODI Preview
The Bangladesh vs Pakistan ODI series continues with the second ODI as Pakistan look to bounce back after a disappointing defeat in the opening match, while Bangladesh aim to secure a quick series victory.
Much of the attention ahead of the Bangladesh vs Pakistan series had centred around Pakistan introducing new players as they begin rebuilding with the ODI World Cup scheduled for next year.
In the first ODI played on Wednesday, Pakistan handed debuts to four batters — Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Shamyl Hussain and Abdul Samad. However, the new-look batting lineup struggled against Bangladesh’s pace attack.
Fast bowler Nahid Rana produced a hostile spell, claiming career-best figures of 5 for 24. The pacer consistently generated pace and bounce while varying his lengths to trouble the Pakistan batters.
Even experienced players Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha were dismissed by Rana as Pakistan collapsed to 114 all out. The total became Pakistan’s lowest score batting first against Bangladesh in ODI cricket.
Bangladesh dominate first ODI
With only 114 to defend, Pakistan’s bowlers were unable to apply pressure and also struggled with discipline, conceding 14 wides during the innings.
Bangladesh comfortably chased down the target, winning by eight wickets with 209 balls remaining. The victory gave them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The hosts now have an opportunity to secure consecutive ODI series wins against Pakistan. The last time Bangladesh achieved that feat was in 2015 when they swept Pakistan 3-0.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz also made a strong impact with the ball, claiming three wickets after facing criticism for his ODI performances.
In the chase, Tanzid Hasan played a key role with an aggressive unbeaten 67 off 42 deliveries to guide Bangladesh to victory.
Pakistan seek response in second ODI
Pakistan will need a much-improved performance in the second ODI as they attempt to level the series.
Their rebuilding phase towards the 2027 cycle got off to a difficult start, but they will hope the young players along with experienced figures such as Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Agha and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi can help them respond strongly in the upcoming match.
