Khushdil Shah’s 44* seals Kings’ victory against Qalandars

Khushdil Shah celebrates after match-winning knock for Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings ended their losing streak with a dramatic five-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars, powered by Khushdil Shah’s explosive finish in a 203 chase.

In match 35, Karachi Kings chased down 199 for 6 with three balls to spare, finishing on 203 for 5. Khushdil’s unbeaten 44 off just 14 balls, alongside David Warner’s 63 not out, turned a contest that Lahore had controlled for most of the innings.

Qalandars build strong platform

Lahore Qalandars looked set for a much bigger total after a commanding 110-run opening stand between Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique, who scored 61 and 62 respectively.

At that stage, the innings appeared on track for well beyond 200. However, a controlled spell from Moeen Ali and disciplined bowling from Hasan Ali slowed the scoring rate and pulled Karachi Kings back into the game.

Late contributions from Daniel Sams, Sikandar Raza and Shaheen Afridi in the final three overs pushed the total to 199 for 6, though the momentum had already dipped from its earlier peak.

Early strikes put Kings under pressure

Karachi’s chase began under immediate pressure from Ubaid Shah, who removed Jason Roy with a steep bouncer before repeating the tactic to dismiss Reeza Hendricks.

When Haris Rauf accounted for Salman Ali Agha, the Kings were left with a rising asking rate nearing 12 runs per over.

At that point, the chase demanded stability, and Warner combined with Moeen Ali to rebuild. Moeen’s fluent cameo helped bring the required rate down, including an over where Sikandar Raza was struck for two sixes.

Even after Moeen fell to Ubaid’s slower delivery, the over still yielded 15 runs, and Azam Khan followed with an aggressive burst, taking 14 runs off Shaheen Afridi to keep Karachi in contention.

Khushdil turns the game at the death

The decisive phase came in the final overs, where Khushdil Shah produced a remarkable assault. With the game still in Lahore’s control, he dismantled the death bowling plans of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf.

Khushdil struck 37 runs off the final 10 balls, ensuring Karachi surged past the target. Seven of the 14 deliveries he faced went for boundaries, as he finished unbeaten on 44.

Warner, who had anchored the innings with a steady 63 not out off 44 balls, remained at the non-striker’s end as Khushdil dominated the closing exchanges.

Match context and impact

Karachi Kings’ victory ends a run of five consecutive losses and keeps their campaign alive. Having been under pressure for much of the chase, the turnaround driven by Khushdil Shah’s late hitting not only secured two crucial points but also overturned a game Lahore Qalandars had largely controlled.
