Blessing Muzarabani Banned from the PSL for Two Seasons

The Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a two-year suspension on Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, ruling him out of the next two Pakistan Super League editions with immediate effect.

The decision follows a disciplinary review into Muzarabani’s withdrawal from PSL 11, where he had been set to represent Islamabad United. The pacer instead opted to join Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, filling a vacancy left by Mustafizur Rahman.

PCB takes action over contract breach

According to the PCB, Muzarabani had accepted essential contractual terms with the PSL, including remuneration and structure, before pulling out of the agreement.

The board stated that professional cricket operates on trust and the certainty of agreements. It emphasised that once terms are agreed through written correspondence, they form a binding obligation.

In this case, the PCB concluded that the player’s decision to take up a conflicting engagement without valid cause amounted to a breach of contractual duties and professional standards.

League stresses integrity and professionalism

In its official statement, the PSL highlighted the importance of maintaining ethical conduct across franchise cricket.

“Professionalism in franchise-based leagues requires participants to act with transparency and consistency. Entering into a conflicting engagement while a prior binding agreement subsists represents a departure from the expected standards of the game,” the statement said.

“Such conduct, if left unaddressed, erodes the reliability of dealings and the confidence that franchises, regulators, and stakeholders place in professional engagements,” it added.

Ban enforced with immediate effect

The two-year ban will apply to the next two PSL seasons and has been enforced immediately.

The PCB described the sanction as a necessary step to protect the professional framework of the league and ensure that contractual commitments are respected across all levels of participation.

While acknowledging the challenges of overlapping global cricket schedules, the board maintained that it will not compromise on the ethical standards that underpin franchise tournaments.
