Arshdeep, Prabhsimran star in PBKS win over MI
Punjab Kings stayed unbeaten in IPL 2026 with a commanding seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, chasing down 196 with 21 balls to spare after restricting MI to 195 for 6.
While Quinton de Kock marked his return with a superb century, the chase was dominated by Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, with Arshdeep Singh setting the tone earlier with the ball.
Arshdeep leads disciplined bowling effort
Arshdeep Singh produced a complete fast-bowling display, finishing with figures of 3 for 22. He extracted movement with the new ball and returned later to exploit reverse swing, while also delivering a tight middle over.
He removed Ryan Rickelton after repeatedly beating the bat, and then dismissed Suryakumar Yadav with a clever change of angle. In doing so, Arshdeep also crossed the milestone of 100 IPL wickets.
De Kock’s century lifts MI
An injury to Rohit Sharma brought Quinton de Kock into the XI, and he made an immediate impact with 112 off 60 balls. The innings made him only the third batter to score IPL hundreds for three different teams.
Naman Dhir supported him with 50 off 31, and the pair took MI to a strong position at 125 for 2 in 12 overs. However, the rest of the batting line-up failed to build on that platform.
PBKS bowlers regain control
Punjab Kings pulled things back effectively after the 12th over.
Marco Jansen and Arshdeep executed yorkers in the death overs, conceding just eight and nine runs in the 18th and 19th overs respectively. Only 70 runs came in the final eight overs of the innings, limiting MI to 195 for 6.
Early wickets give MI brief hope
In the chase, Allah Ghazanfar struck twice in the powerplay to briefly put PBKS under pressure, removing Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly.
At one stage, MI had built pressure with a sequence of 10 balls yielding just one run and a wicket.
Prabhsimran, Iyer seal dominant chase
Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer then took control of the chase and never allowed MI back into the contest.
Prabhsimran remained unbeaten on 80 off 39 balls, bringing up his half-century in just 23 deliveries. It was his first unbeaten innings in a successful IPL chase, taking his season tally to 211 runs from 122 balls.
Iyer contributed 66 off 35 balls, registering his third consecutive half-century. He immediately countered pressure with a boundary off his first ball and ensured the required rate never climbed.
Despite Jasprit Bumrah building pressure early, including four consecutive dot balls, he finished wicketless again, returning figures of 0 for 41 in his four overs.
The chase accelerated quickly once Prabhsimran found his rhythm, and with 50 required off the last seven overs, the result was effectively sealed. Punjab Kings reached 198 for 3 in just 16.3 overs.
Conclusion: PBKS emerge as serious contenders
Punjab Kings’ fifth straight win highlights their balance across departments, with Arshdeep leading the bowling and Prabhsimran and Iyer anchoring the batting.
For Mumbai Indians, a fourth consecutive defeat raises concerns, particularly around their inability to capitalise on strong individual performances like de Kock’s century.
