Babar Azam leads PSL 11 Team of the Tournament as captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board has revealed the PSL 11 Team of the Tournament, with Babar Azam named captain after a standout season that saw him dominate both as a batter and leader.

The PSL 11 Team of the Tournament highlights the players who consistently shaped results across the competition, with strong representation from Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen following their impactful campaigns.

Babar Azam headlines a record-equalling season

Babar Azam led from the front throughout the tournament, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 588 runs. Opening the innings, he also secured the Hanif Mohammad Cap and matched Fakhar Zaman’s record for most runs in a single PSL season, originally set in 2022.

His campaign included two centuries in four matches against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, underlining his consistency across key fixtures.

Zalmi and Kingsmen dominate selections

The composition of the XI reflects the influence of Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen, with three players each included from both sides.

Kusal Mendis was a major contributor for Zalmi, scoring 550 runs with four half-centuries and a century, while also completing eight dismissals behind the stumps. His century came against Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium on 9 April.

Sufiyan Moqim delivered one of the most effective bowling campaigns of the season, taking 22 wickets at an average of 14.40 and an economy rate of 7.20, earning both Player of the Tournament and Best Bowler honours.

For Hyderabad Kingsmen, Usman Khan scored 389 runs, including a century and three half-centuries, while Hassan Khan added 139 runs at a strike rate of 195 alongside six wickets and strong fielding contributions. Hunain Shah claimed 17 wickets in 10 matches, becoming a key figure in the latter stages of the tournament.

All-round impact shapes the XI

Lahore Qalandars’ Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi both earned selection after influential campaigns. Fakhar scored 401 runs to finish third overall, while Shaheen picked up 16 wickets at an economy rate of 7.86.

Multan Sultans’ Shan Masood was included after accumulating 367 runs at an average of 45.87 and a strike rate of 158.18.

Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan secured his place following an all-round season, scoring 173 runs and taking 17 wickets, which earned him the Best All-Rounder of the Tournament award. Teammate Richard Gleeson was also selected after taking 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13 with the new ball.

Quetta Gladiators’ Hasan Nawaz was named as the 12th player after scoring 291 runs.

A total of 44 matches were played from 26 March to 3 May across Lahore and Karachi, with the selected XI reflecting players who delivered consistent impact across those fixtures.

The final composition underlines how individual excellence translated into team success, particularly for Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen, whose players feature heavily in a side built on sustained performance across the tournament.
