Shaheen Afridi Fined by Lahore Qalandars Over Security Breach
Lahore Qalandars have fined their captain Shaheen Shah Afridi following a security protocol incident at the team hotel, with Shaheen Afridi handed a PKR 1 million penalty by the franchise.
The decision was confirmed in an official statement, where the Qalandars said the action was taken to “maintain discipline and impose accountability” within the squad.
Fine imposed after security protocol incident
Lahore Qalandars fined Shaheen Shah Afridi PKR 1 million (approximately USD 3600) after Punjab police accused him of violating security protocols.
Sikandar Raza, who was also named in the allegations, will not face any disciplinary action. Speaking at a press conference, Raza accepted responsibility for the situation and attempted to clear Afridi of wrongdoing.
Police letter and allegations
The incident came to light after a letter from Punjab police to PSL CEO Salman Naseer surfaced on social media.
The letter alleged that Afridi and Raza breached security rules by allowing visitors into Raza’s hotel room despite being denied permission by PCB security officials, the anti-corruption manager, and Naseer.
Raza stated that the visitors remained in the room for around 40 minutes, while the police letter claimed the duration was closer to three hours.
Qalandars’ response to controversy
Lahore Qalandars acknowledged the core details of the incident but maintained that the situation had been exaggerated publicly.
The franchise said the matter had been “overstated in public discourse, amplified beyond its original context,” and described it as unnecessarily escalated.
They added that the issue arose from a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate attempt to violate procedures.
Commitment to discipline and protocols
The franchise reiterated its full respect for security protocols and standard operating procedures.
Lahore Qalandars also emphasised the need for clearer communication and alignment around these protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
What this means
The fine highlights how strictly teams are enforcing off-field discipline during PSL 11.
It underlines that franchises are expected to uphold security standards alongside on-field performance, with accountability applied even at leadership level.
