Rizvi Leads Delhi Capitals to Another successful Chase

Sameer Rizvi batting for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals secured a composed six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, with Sameer Rizvi once again delivering a match-winning performance. Rizvi’s innings proved decisive as DC chased down 163, finishing on 164 for 4 with 11 balls to spare at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Rizvi’s unbeaten 90 off 51 balls earned him his second consecutive Player-of-the-Match award this season, and his third in a row dating back to the final game of IPL 2025.

DC bowlers restrict Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers set up the win by limiting Mumbai Indians to 162 for 6 on a slow black-soil surface.

Suryakumar Yadav, leading the side in the absence of Hardik Pandya, top-scored with 51 off 36 balls. However, the rest of the batting unit struggled to find fluency, with the first six of the innings coming only on the final ball of the seventh over.

Mukesh Kumar played a key role early, recovering from a wayward start to dismiss Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma in the same over. Axar Patel also kept things tight, conceding just three runs in a crucial over while maintaining pressure.

Suryakumar anchors but MI fall short

Rohit Sharma made 35 off 26 balls before falling to Axar, continuing a difficult match-up against the spinner.

Suryakumar held the innings together, attacking the spinners and striking Kuldeep Yadav for two sixes. He brought up his fifty before being dismissed lbw by Lungi Ngidi in the next delivery.

Mumbai Indians managed only 38 runs in the death overs, leaving them short of a more competitive total.

DC stumble early in chase

Delhi Capitals had a shaky start to their chase, losing KL Rahul for 1 off three balls and Nitish Rana in a run-out soon after.

At 7 for 2, Pathum Nissanka counterattacked with 44 off 30 balls, including boundaries off Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur. He received a reprieve on 41 but was dismissed shortly after.

At the halfway stage, DC were 73 for 3, matching MI’s position at the same point and leaving the contest finely balanced.

Rizvi takes control of the chase

Sameer Rizvi turned the game decisively in Delhi’s favour with a dominant display in the middle overs.

Batting on 25 off 23 balls after ten overs, he shifted gears dramatically, scoring 20 runs in a single over off Corbin Bosch with a range of attacking strokes.

He followed that up by hitting Mayank Markande for back-to-back sixes to bring up his fifty off 31 balls.

Rizvi’s control was evident as he dominated a partnership where David Miller contributed just 1 run. By the end of the 15th over, the result was effectively sealed.

He eventually fell for 90 while attempting to reach a century, but by then DC needed just 25 runs, and the outcome was no longer in doubt.

What this means

Delhi Capitals’ back-to-back successful chases highlight their growing confidence and depth in batting, particularly through Sameer Rizvi’s consistent performances.

For Mumbai Indians, the defeat reflects challenges in building momentum with the bat and capitalising on competitive totals in balanced conditions.
