RCB Smash 250 as Tim David Destroys CSK Attack
Royal Challengers Bengalore produced a brutal display of power-hitting to overwhelm Chennai Super Kings, with Tim David and Rajat Patidar leading the charge. Tim David’s innings proved decisive as RCB piled up 250 for 3 and secured a commanding 43-run victory at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Chasing 251, CSK were bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, slumping to their third straight defeat of the season.
Early restraint before explosive finish
RCB’s innings began cautiously on a tacky surface, with the first boundary arriving only after 20 balls. Matt Henry and Khaleel Ahmed kept things tight early, and Anshul Kamboj provided the breakthrough by dismissing Virat Kohli for 28 off 18 balls.
Phil Salt also struggled initially, reaching 15 off 16 balls before accelerating briefly. He eventually fell for 46 off 30 balls to Shivam Dube.
Devdutt Padikkal then anchored the innings, overcoming a slow start to register a 50 off 29 balls. At 91 for 1 after ten overs, RCB were steady but not yet dominant.
David and Patidar unleash carnage
The game changed dramatically once Tim David and Rajat Patidar came together at 151 for 3 in the 15th over.
David took control of the innings, smashing an unbeaten 70 while facing just 25 of the remaining deliveries. His assault included a stunning 30-run over off Jamie Overton, featuring a sequence of 6,4,6,6,6. One of those hits travelled 106 metres and out of the stadium.
Patidar complemented him perfectly, finishing unbeaten on 48 off 19 balls. Though he faced fewer deliveries late in the innings, his earlier strokeplay ensured the momentum never dipped.
The pair struck 14 sixes between them from just 44 balls, propelling RCB to 250 for 3 — their third-highest IPL total and the highest ever against CSK.
CSK collapse despite fighting knocks
CSK’s chase never truly recovered after a disastrous start. They lost their top three wickets within the first three overs, with Jacob Duffy removing both Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the slips.
From 30 for 3, CSK attempted to rebuild through Sarfaraz Khan, who scored a rapid 50 off 24 balls. However, he was stumped off Krunal Pandya immediately after reaching his half-century.
Prashant Veer added 43 off 29 balls and Jamie Overton chipped in with a cameo, but the required rate continued to climb.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who earlier reached 200 IPL wickets by dismissing Ayush Mhatre, was among the standout bowlers for RCB with 3 for 41, while Abhinandan claimed 2 for 30.
Despite moments of resistance, CSK were dismissed for 207, falling well short of the target.
What this means
RCB’s victory underlines the impact of sustained power-hitting in modern T20 cricket, especially in the latter stages of an innings.
For CSK, the defeat highlights ongoing struggles with both early wickets and containing opposition batters, as they remain winless after three matches in IPL 2026.
