PSL 11: Labuschagne Leads Kingsmen Past Islamabad
Hyderabad Kingsmen secured back-to-back wins in PSL 11 with a composed chase against Islamabad United, led by a captain’s knock from Marnus Labuschagne.
Chasing 154 on a slow Karachi surface, Labuschagne’s unbeaten 61 anchored the innings as Kingsmen reached 157 for 4 with 11 balls to spare.
Labuschagne anchors tricky chase
On a pitch offering little pace and bounce, Labuschagne adapted superbly, guiding the chase with a measured 61 not out off 53 balls.
He found strong support from Saim Ayub, who contributed 35 off 26, as the pair stitched together a crucial 60-run partnership that proved decisive in the context of the match.
Despite a brief wobble where Kingsmen lost three wickets for just five runs, Labuschagne held firm. Glenn Maxwell then provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 21 off nine balls, ensuring the chase was completed without further drama.
Strong powerplay sets platform
Kingsmen made an aggressive start, scoring 56 for 1 in the powerplay. Maaz Sadaqat led the charge with a quickfire 30 off 16 balls, including a 20-run opening over against Imad Wasim.
The early momentum ensured that Kingsmen stayed ahead of the required rate, even as conditions became tougher for strokeplay.
Islamabad lose momentum in middle overs
Islamabad United had earlier made a promising start, reaching 57 for 1 in the powerplay. Devon Conway led the effort with 45 off 31 balls, while Mark Chapman added 42 off 30.
However, their innings lost direction in the middle overs. Back-to-back run outs of Conway and Mohammad Faiq (18 off 14) in the 10th over halted their progress.
Kingsmen’s bowlers exploited the conditions effectively, using variations and slower deliveries to restrict scoring. A prolonged boundary drought of 56 balls further dented United’s innings.
Asif Mehmood’s late burst
The final over saw a dramatic finish from debutant Asif Mehmood, who claimed four wickets while conceding just three runs.
Having been expensive earlier, Mehmood turned the game with a clinical last over, ensuring Islamabad were restricted to 153 for 9.
What this means
Hyderabad Kingsmen’s back-to-back wins underline their growing confidence and adaptability in PSL 11. Their ability to handle pressure in tricky conditions highlights a balanced unit. For Islamabad United, the defeat exposes issues in maintaining momentum through the middle overs.
