PSL 11: Hyderabad Kingsmen clinch historic first win

Hyderabad Kingsmen players celebrate first PSL 11 victory

Hyderabad Kingsmen secured their first-ever victory in PSL 11, edging Karachi Kings by four wickets in a tense chase that went down to the final over.

Chasing 189, Hyderabad Kingsmen reached 189 for 6 with five balls to spare, sealing a landmark result in what was billed as the first all-Sindh derby.

Kings post competitive total

Karachi Kings put up 188 for 8, powered by a composed 53 from Saad Baig and a blistering 44 off just 16 balls from Moeen Ali.

Baig was retired out as Kings accelerated towards the death overs, while Moeen’s late assault lifted the total beyond what appeared a modest score earlier.

However, Kings were without captain David Warner, who missed the match due to a back injury. Reeza Hendricks, stepping in, fell in the first over, and contributions from Muhammad Waseem, Salman Agha and Azam Khan came at a relatively slow rate.

Hunain Shah delivered a crucial spell, dismissing Agha and Waseem in quick succession with precise yorkers. Despite this, Kings surged late after Glenn Maxwell and Saim Ayub conceded 40 runs in two overs to Moeen.

Hunain returned at the death to regain control, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 19 as Kings closed on 188.

Kingsmen’s explosive start

Hyderabad Kingsmen launched their chase with intent, racing to 76 in the powerplay — one of the fastest starts of the PSL 11 season.

Marnus Labuschagne led the charge early, smashing 26 off 10 balls, including 18 runs in an over against Moeen Ali. After his dismissal, Maaz Sadaqat and Usman Khan continued the momentum with aggressive strokeplay.

However, Karachi Kings fought back through Abbas Afridi and Adam Zampa. Afridi removed Usman Khan, while Zampa struck soon after to dismiss Sadaqat, aided by a sharp catch from Khushdil Shah.

Middle-order wobble shifts momentum

The chase took a dramatic turn as Hyderabad Kingsmen lost wickets in clusters. Saim Ayub fell cheaply, and Glenn Maxwell followed soon after, leaving the side five down with 75 runs still required.

Kusal Perera attempted to steady the innings alongside Irfan Khan but was dismissed after picking out a fielder at wide midwicket, further increasing the pressure.

At that stage, the match tilted firmly in Karachi Kings’ favour.

Irfan and Hassan finish under pressure

With the game slipping away, Irfan Khan and Hassan Khan combined for a crucial 50-run partnership off just 24 balls for the seventh wicket.

Their calm and calculated approach ensured Hyderabad Kingsmen stayed within touching distance before capitalising on a costly over from Ihsanullah, which brought the target down to 24 runs from three overs.

From there, the pair held their nerve to guide Kingsmen to victory, completing the chase with five balls remaining.

What this means

This win marks a historic milestone for Hyderabad Kingsmen, registering their first points in PSL 11 and boosting confidence after a difficult start. For Karachi Kings, the defeat highlights missed opportunities despite strong individual performances, particularly in a game they controlled at multiple stages.
