New Euro Nations Cup Cricket Tournament Eyes 2027 Launch

European cricket teams proposed Euro Nations Cup 2027

Euro Nations Cup cricket plans are gaining momentum, with Cricket Ireland pushing for a new European tournament that could begin as early as 2027.

The proposed competition, modelled on the Asia Cup, is expected to feature leading European teams including England, Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands and Italy. It will include both men’s and women’s matches, most likely in the T20 format.

Cricket Ireland chair Brian MacNeice expressed strong support for the idea and revealed that discussions have been ongoing with key stakeholders.

Growing support for new European tournament

MacNeice confirmed that the concept has been discussed with officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board during England’s T20I tour of Ireland last September.

He stated that the proposal has been under consideration for some time and remains a project he strongly believes in.

According to MacNeice, discussions have progressed significantly in recent months, with stakeholders becoming increasingly aligned on the structure and timeline of the tournament.

He added that formal announcements regarding the format and further details are expected once final agreements are reached.

MacNeice indicated that the tournament could begin in the summer of 2027, with more clarity likely to emerge in the coming months.

He also highlighted that the event will feature both men’s and women’s competitions and is expected to attract broadcast interest once finalised.

Ireland strengthens international ties

Separately, Ireland confirmed new long-term arrangements with the Emirates Cricket Board and the Cricket Association of Nepal.

Under these agreements, Ireland’s men’s team will play regular white-ball series against both the UAE and Nepal.

Additionally, from the 2026-27 season onwards, each ILT20 franchise will be required to include at least one Ireland player in their squad.

These developments underline Ireland’s growing influence in international cricket and its efforts to expand opportunities through new competitions and partnerships.
