Lahore Qalandars Ball Tampering Controversy in PSL 11
Lahore Qalandars ball tampering became the major talking point in PSL 11 after the team was penalised five runs during their match against Karachi Kings.
The incident occurred just before the final over of the second innings, significantly impacting the outcome of the match, which Karachi Kings went on to win with three balls to spare.
Controversial moment before final over
After 19 overs of the chase, Karachi Kings required 14 runs to win, with Haris Rauf set to bowl the final over.
At that moment, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman gathered near the bowler’s run-up and were seen handling the ball.
Umpire Faisal Afridi closely observed the interaction and immediately requested the ball for inspection. Following a detailed discussion with square-leg umpire Sharfuddoula, the officials concluded that the condition of the ball had been deliberately altered.
As a result, five penalty runs were awarded to Karachi Kings, and the ball was replaced.
Shaheen Afridi reacts to decision
The decision left Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi visibly frustrated, as the penalty reduced the target to just nine runs in the final over.
Despite his reaction on the field, Afridi did not offer a clear explanation during the post-match presentation, stating: “We’ll see [what the umpires say].”
Kings capitalise to seal win
The momentum quickly shifted in Karachi Kings’ favour following the penalty.
Although Khushdil Shah was dismissed on the first delivery of the final over, Haris Rauf bowled a wide on the next ball, adding to the pressure.
Abbas Afridi then struck a four and a six to finish the match, sealing a dramatic victory for Karachi Kings.
The result means Karachi Kings maintain a perfect record with two wins in two matches, while Lahore Qalandars have now split their opening two games.
What this means for PSL 11
The incident has added controversy to PSL 11, highlighting how crucial officiating decisions can influence match outcomes.
For Lahore Qalandars, the penalty proved decisive in a tightly contested finish, while Karachi Kings capitalised effectively to continue their strong start to the season.
