Klaasen Fifty and Travishek Blitz Power SRH to Big Win

Heinrich Klaasen batting for SRH in IPL 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad secured their first points of IPL 2026 with a dominant victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, powered by Heinrich Klaasen and a blazing start from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Klaasen’s innings proved crucial as SRH posted 226 for 8, the highest total of the season so far, before bowling KKR out for 161 to win by 65 runs.

SRH also became the first team in IPL 2026 to successfully defend a total.

Travishek onslaught sets the tone

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave SRH a flying start, putting together 82 runs in just 5.4 overs.

Head struck 46 off 21 balls, while Abhishek matched the aggression with 48 off 21. After a cautious opening over from Vaibhav Arora, the pair quickly took control, attacking both pace and spin.

Abhishek was particularly severe on Varun Chakravarthy, smashing two sixes and three fours in a 25-run over. Head eventually fell to Kartik Tyagi, but not before SRH had raced to 84 for 1 in the powerplay.

KKR fight back in middle overs

Kolkata Knight Riders pulled things back through Blessing Muzarabani, who removed Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma in quick succession.

Aniket Verma followed soon after, leaving SRH at 118 for 4. Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy then steadied the innings, with SRH managing only 37 runs between overs 10 and 14.

The slowdown gave KKR a foothold in the contest after a punishing start.

Klaasen leads strong finish

Heinrich Klaasen ensured SRH finished strongly with a composed 52 off 35 balls.

Despite tight spells from Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi, Klaasen shifted gears late, finding boundaries in the closing overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy also contributed, while late cameos from Harsh Dubey and Shivang Kumar helped SRH surge past 220.

SRH added 51 runs in the final four overs to push the total beyond KKR’s reach.

KKR start strong but collapse

KKR began the chase aggressively, with Finn Allen smashing 24 runs off the opening over from David Payne.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a key role, scoring a 27-ball fifty to take KKR to 110 for 3 in ten overs. However, his run-out proved to be the turning point in the chase.

Rinku Singh offered brief resistance, but wickets fell regularly as SRH regained control.

Late wickets seal the win

After the crucial run-out, SRH tightened their grip on the game. Nitish Kumar Reddy removed Anukul Roy and Rinku Singh in successive overs.

Eshan Malinga’s slower balls accounted for Sunil Narine and Ramandeep Singh, while Jaydev Unadkat wrapped up the innings with two wickets in two balls.

KKR were eventually bowled out for 161 in 16 overs, falling well short despite a strong start.

What this means

This result marks Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first win of IPL 2026 and highlights the impact of aggressive powerplay batting combined with a strong finish.

For Kolkata Knight Riders, the defeat underlines the importance of converting strong starts into sustained pressure, particularly in high-scoring chases.
