ICC delays board meetings due to Middle East tensions

ICC headquarters and governance meeting discussion regarding postponed Doha board meetings

The ICC board meetings scheduled for March 25–27 in Doha, Qatar, have been postponed due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) informed its member nations of the decision on Saturday, a day before the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad. The governing body described the move as unavoidable given the current regional circumstances.

Meetings expected to be rescheduled

The meetings are expected to be rearranged for some time in April, although a confirmed date has not yet been announced.

Sources indicate that the ICC is currently looking for an alternative venue within the Asian continent to host the gathering.

Key governance gathering

The Doha meetings were set to bring together ICC Board Directors, Chief Executives, Committee Members and other senior leadership figures as part of the organisation’s regular governance calendar.

The assembly was expected to serve as an important platform to discuss major issues affecting both the present and future of the global game.

When the ICC announced Qatar as the host nation on February 22, the organisation highlighted the country’s increasing involvement in cricket and its sporting infrastructure.

The ICC had also pointed to its collaboration with the Qatar Cricket Association and the Olympic Committee, noting that the partnership had contributed to “remarkable progress” for the sport in recent years.

Officials gather in Ahmedabad

Meanwhile, several ICC officials are expected to be present in Ahmedabad for the T20 World Cup final on Sunday.

The host city is also the home base of ICC Chair Jay Shah.

Among those anticipated to attend the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium is New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chairman Roger Twose, with the Black Caps competing for the title.

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani and Cricket South Africa (CSA) chairman Dr Mohammed Moosajee are also expected to be in attendance, along with other board representatives.

However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam is not expected to attend as he is believed to be in Melbourne.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Moshsin Naqvi will also not be present.
