Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st ODI: Tigers win by eight wickets
Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st ODI ended in a dominant eight-wicket victory for the hosts at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Bangladesh comfortably chased Pakistan’s modest target of 115, reaching the total in just 15.1 overs while losing only two wickets. The chase was driven by a strong top-order performance, particularly from Tanzid Hasan.
Pakistan had earlier struggled after opting to bat first, eventually being bowled out for 115 as Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Nahid Rana, dismantled the batting lineup.
Bangladesh chase 115 with ease
Bangladesh began their run chase positively as openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan provided a steady start.
The opening partnership produced 27 runs before Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi dismissed Saif Hassan for four from 10 balls.
After the breakthrough, Tanzid Hasan joined forces with Najmul Hossain Shanto to take control of the innings. The pair counterattacked the Pakistan bowlers, targeting Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf during the powerplay.
Bangladesh crossed the 50-run mark by the seventh over as the partnership continued to grow. The duo added 82 runs together, dominating Pakistan’s bowling attack.
Tanzid Hasan brought up his fifth ODI half-century during the partnership, keeping Bangladesh firmly in control as the hosts reached 92-1 after 12 overs.
Wasim Jr eventually broke the stand by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored 27 from 33 deliveries with five boundaries.
Tanzid remained unbeaten on 67 from 42 balls, striking seven fours and five sixes. Litton Das added three runs as Bangladesh completed the chase with ease.
Pakistan collapse after steady start
Pakistan initially looked comfortable after choosing to bat first. Openers Maaz Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan built a promising start with a 41-run partnership.
Nahid Rana provided Bangladesh with the first breakthrough by dismissing Farhan for 27 off 38 balls, which included four boundaries.
The pacer struck again in the 12th over to remove debutant Shamyl Hussain for four from seven balls, leaving Pakistan at 47-2 in 11.3 overs.
Pakistan’s innings quickly lost momentum as wickets continued to fall.
Nahid Rana dismissed Maaz Sadaqat for 18 from 28 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan was the next to depart after scoring 10 from 20 deliveries.
Bangladesh tightened their grip on the match when Nahid Rana removed Salman Ali Agha for five from eight balls to claim his fifth wicket.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz then joined the attack and dismissed Abdul Samad for a six-ball duck. Hussain Talat also fell cheaply, scoring four from 13 balls.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi attempted to counterattack with a boundary but was trapped lbw by Mehidy Hasan for four.
Taskin Ahmed removed Wasim Jr for a duck as Pakistan slumped further.
Faheem Ashraf tried to rebuild the innings with a fighting knock of 37 from 47 balls, hitting six fours and one six to push Pakistan past the 100-run mark in the 26th over.
However, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Faheem to bring Pakistan’s innings to a close at 115.
Nahid Rana leads Bangladesh bowling
Nahid Rana delivered a match-winning spell, finishing with outstanding figures of 5 for 24 in seven overs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz supported him with three wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed picked up one wicket each.
