Finn Allen century powers KKR to crushing win over DC
Kolkata Knight Riders extended their winning streak to four matches with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, driven by a sensational unbeaten century from Finn Allen and another suffocating display from their spin attack.
Chasing 143, KKR reached 147 for 2 with ease as Allen smashed his maiden IPL hundred off just 47 balls. The New Zealand batter dominated Delhi’s spinners throughout the chase, turning what could have been a tricky pursuit into a one-sided contest.
Delhi Capitals had earlier managed only 142 for 8 after KKR’s spinners tightened their grip through the middle overs. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Anukul Roy combined to restrict scoring opportunities on a slow surface where new batters struggled to settle.
Nissanka fights lone battle for DC
Pathum Nissanka carried Delhi Capitals through the first half of their innings with a fluent 50. He scored at a strike rate of 172 and contributed 50 of the team’s first 85 runs, while the rest of the batting line-up found scoring increasingly difficult.
The contrast between Nissanka and the other batters highlighted the nature of the pitch. While he continued to find boundaries, the rest of the line-up struggled to rotate strike or accelerate against spin.
His innings ended when Anukul Roy lured him out of the crease with a slower, wider delivery that resulted in a stumping. Roy struck again four balls later, beginning the collapse that shifted complete control towards KKR.
KKR spinners choke the innings
Delhi were positioned at 74 for 2 after eight overs, but once the field spread and spin dominated proceedings, the innings slowed dramatically.
Roy, Narine and Chakravarthy squeezed the middle overs relentlessly on a turning surface. Between overs 12 and 16, Delhi scored just 11 runs in 30 deliveries, one of the slowest middle-over phases seen in IPL history.
Roy showcased impressive variation despite not relying on mystery spin. After removing Nissanka with a slower delivery, he bowled Tristan Stubbs with a much quicker ball that skidded through.
With Delhi slipping to 89 for 5, Narine and Chakravarthy tightened the pressure further. Narine finished with figures of 4-0-17-1, while Chakravarthy returned 4-0-28-0 despite struggling with a visible limp late in his spell.
Ashutosh Sharma eventually provided some resistance with a counter-attacking 39 off 28 balls. He ended a lengthy boundary drought and struck Vaibhav Arora for six in the 19th over, helping Delhi recover to 142 for 8.

Allen dismantles Delhi attack
Finn Allen ensured KKR never allowed Delhi back into the contest.
For the first time in his IPL career, Allen batted through the powerplay. Despite an early moment of frustration when Ajinkya Rahane was run out after Allen’s straight drive deflected off Mitchell Starc onto the stumps, he quickly settled into a devastating rhythm.
Delhi’s spinners repeatedly erred in length, allowing Allen to dominate down the ground. After crawling to 20 off 17 balls, he exploded through the middle overs and launched 10 sixes in total.
Allen particularly punished spin, scoring 73 runs off just 31 balls against Delhi’s slow bowlers at a strike rate of 235. The innings reached its perfect conclusion when he cleared the ropes again with KKR needing only two runs to win and himself requiring six to complete the century.
His unbeaten 100 turned the chase into one of the most dominant batting performances of the season.
Kuldeep’s difficult season continues
While KKR’s spinners dictated terms throughout the night, Kuldeep Yadav endured another difficult outing for Delhi Capitals.
Despite not bowling during the powerplay, Kuldeep conceded runs at 13.66 an over as Allen repeatedly targeted him. In contrast, Axar Patel managed figures of 4-0-27-1 even after bowling three overs with fielding restrictions in place.
The difference between the two spin attacks ultimately shaped the match. KKR’s bowlers controlled the game during the middle overs, while Delhi’s spinners were unable to apply similar pressure once Allen settled in.
This victory strengthens Kolkata Knight Riders’ momentum as their spin-heavy strategy continues to deliver results. For Delhi Capitals, the defeat exposed how quickly matches can drift away when the middle overs are lost with both bat and ball.
