Conway Leads United Rout as Qalandars Crumble

Devon Conway batting during Islamabad United chase against Lahore Qalandars

Islamabad United produced a dominant all-round display to dismantle the defending champions Lahore Qalandars by nine wickets in PSL 11, with Devon Conway anchoring a clinical chase after a ruthless bowling effort.

Chasing just 101, United cruised to 104 for 1 with 9.4 overs to spare, underlining the gulf between the two sides in Karachi.

Bowlers dismantle Qalandars

Islamabad United set the tone early with the ball, reducing Lahore Qalandars to 100 all out in a one-sided contest.

Mohammad Naeem fell for a golden duck in the opening over, while Abdullah Shafique followed soon after thanks to a sharp diving catch by Shadab Khan at mid-off. From there, wickets fell regularly as United’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.

Chris Green led the charge with figures of 3 for 19, while Imad Wasim and Richard Gleeson chipped in with two wickets apiece. Shadab Khan also contributed, ensuring there was no respite for the Qalandars batting line-up.

A brief 31-run partnership between Asif Ali and Sikandar Raza offered some resistance, but it proved to be the only meaningful stand of the innings. Once Asif fell to Shadab, the collapse accelerated, with the final six wickets tumbling for just 28 runs.

Conway, Faiq seal easy chase

Shaheen Shah Afridi provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Sameer Minhas, but that was as good as it got for Lahore.

Devon Conway and Mohammad Faiq then took complete control of the chase with a dominant 93-run partnership. Conway paced the innings smartly, initially rotating strike before accelerating once the pressure eased.

Faiq played an equally assured hand with 34 not out, supporting Conway throughout the stand.

The left-hander brought up his half-century in style, smashing Sikandar Raza for 22 runs in the tenth over. Two balls later, the target was achieved, sealing a comprehensive win for United.

What this means

The victory strengthens Islamabad United’s position in PSL 11, highlighting their balance with both bat and ball. For Lahore Qalandars, the heavy defeat exposes concerns in both departments as the tournament progresses.
