Jaiswal Stars as Royals Beat Mumbai in 11-Over Clash

Yashasvi Jaiswal batting during IPL match for Rajasthan Royals

A rain-hit contest in Guwahati turned into a high-octane spectacle, with Rajasthan Royals overpowering Mumbai Indians in a shortened encounter. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings proved decisive as Rajasthan Royals posted 150 for 3 in 11 overs before restricting Mumbai Indians to 123 for 9 to secure a 27-run victory.

Heavy rain delayed the start by over two-and-a-half hours, with play finally beginning at 10:10pm. The reduced match immediately favoured aggressive batting, and Rajasthan capitalised from the outset.

Explosive start sets the tone

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi launched a blistering assault, adding 80 runs in just five overs. Sooryavanshi hammered 39 off 14 balls before falling, but the early damage had already shifted the momentum firmly in Rajasthan’s favour.

Jaiswal took charge throughout the innings, finishing unbeaten on 77 from just 32 deliveries. Rajasthan Royals ended on 150 for 3, a commanding total in the shortened format.

Powerplay chaos defines contest

The shortened powerplay of 3.2 overs produced immediate fireworks. Jaiswal tore into Deepak Chahar in the opening over, striking boundaries at will.

A highly anticipated contest followed as 15-year-old Sooryavanshi faced Jasprit Bumrah. He responded with fearless hitting, smashing two sixes and taking 13 runs off just five deliveries against one of the game’s premier bowlers.

By the end of the 20-ball powerplay, Rajasthan had surged to 59 without loss.

Jaiswal leads the charge

Jaiswal continued his dominance, reaching his half-century off 23 balls. He struck four fours and three sixes early in his innings, maintaining relentless pressure on the Mumbai attack.

Despite wickets falling at the other end—Sooryavanshi to Shardul Thakur, and Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag to AM Ghazanfar—Jaiswal remained unfazed. He added late boundaries, including a straight six off Bumrah and three fours in the final over, to lift Rajasthan to 150.

Mumbai stumble in chase

Mumbai Indians never recovered from a poor start. Reduced to 29 for 3 in the powerplay, they struggled to match the required rate of nearly 14 runs per over.

Jofra Archer struck early, while Sandeep Sharma dismissed Rohit Sharma lbw. Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton showed brief resistance but failed to convert starts.

Ravi Bishnoi further tightened Rajasthan’s grip, removing Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma to leave Mumbai at 46 for 5 after five overs.

Late resistance falls short

Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford attempted a recovery with a rapid 47-run partnership off 17 balls. However, with the required rate climbing beyond 17 an over, the chase slipped out of reach.

Rutherford’s dismissal, caught by Sandeep Sharma at short third, ended any remaining hopes. Rajasthan’s bowlers, including Nandre Burger, Sandeep Sharma, and Archer, closed out the innings efficiently.

Mumbai finished on 123 for 9, falling 27 runs short.

What this means

The victory lifts Rajasthan Royals to the top of the points table with three wins in three matches.

For Mumbai Indians, a second consecutive defeat highlights early-season struggles, particularly under pressure in high-scoring games. Rajasthan, meanwhile, continue to build momentum with dominant performances in both batting and bowling.
