David Warner Charged With Drink Driving in Sydney

Former Australia opener David Warner has been charged with drink driving after an alleged incident in Sydney, with the experienced batter now set to appear in court next month.

According to reports, David Warner recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.104 following a roadside breath test on Sunday evening in the eastern suburb of Maroubra—more than double the legal limit of 0.05 for fully licensed drivers in New South Wales.

Incident and arrest details

New South Wales Police stated that the incident occurred at approximately 5:30pm on Sunday, 5 April 2026, during a stationary random breath testing operation on Malabar Road, Maroubra.

Police observed a van allegedly stopping short of the testing site and parking nearby. Officers then approached the vehicle and conducted a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

The driver, identified as a 39-year-old man, was subsequently arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station. A second test conducted at the station also allegedly returned a reading of 0.104.

In an official statement, NSW Police confirmed that the individual was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for driving with a middle-range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA).

Court appearance scheduled

Warner is scheduled to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, 7 May 2026, in relation to the charge.

The former Test opener, who played 112 Tests for Australia, has not publicly commented on the matter at this stage.

PSL commitments in focus

Warner is currently captaining Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11. He is expected to arrive in Karachi on April 9 for the second leg of the tournament.

Situations like this can raise logistical and availability questions in franchise cricket, particularly when legal proceedings overlap with tournament schedules.

What this means

The charge places Warner under legal scrutiny at a time when he remains actively involved in franchise cricket. With a court appearance scheduled in May, the situation could have implications for his availability and commitments, while also drawing attention during the ongoing PSL season.
