Arya and Shreyas Lead PBKS to Record Chase Against CSK
Punjab Kings continued their dominance in high-scoring chases with another remarkable win over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. Arya’s innings and a composed half-century from Shreyas Iyer powered PBKS to 210 for 5, chasing down 209 with five wickets to spare.
This marked Punjab’s ninth successful chase of a 200-plus target in IPL history and their fourth consecutive win over CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
CSK post strong total led by Mhatre
Chennai Super Kings posted 209 for 5, with Ayush Mhatre leading the way with an impressive 73 off 43 balls.
Batting at No. 3, Mhatre made full use of the powerplay, playing a range of confident strokes including a well-executed swivel-pull shot. He was dropped twice, on 59 and 67, before eventually being dismissed.
Shivam Dube contributed 45, while Sarfaraz Khan added a quickfire 32 off 12 balls, helping CSK push past 200. Despite the strong total, the innings exposed concerns in CSK’s bowling depth.
Arya’s explosive cameo sets the tone
Punjab Kings began their chase at a blistering pace, driven by Priyansh Arya’s explosive 39 off just 11 balls.
Arya raced to 33 off 9 balls as PBKS reached 50 within the fourth over, immediately putting pressure on CSK. His aggressive approach ensured that more than 30% of the target was achieved during the powerplay.
The quality and timing of his strokeplay stood out, particularly his ability to attack on the up and dominate the bowlers early.
Shreyas anchors with rapid fifty
While Arya provided the early surge, Shreyas Iyer anchored the chase with a well-paced innings.
Starting cautiously on 4 off 5 balls, Shreyas accelerated brilliantly to bring up a 26-ball half-century. His shift in tempo proved decisive, particularly during a crucial phase when CSK briefly created pressure.
At the start of the 13th over, PBKS’ chances were evenly balanced, but Shreyas changed the momentum by hitting Rahul Chahar for two sixes, pushing the game firmly in Punjab’s favour.
CSK fail to capitalise on conditions
Despite batting-friendly conditions at Chepauk, CSK were unable to defend their total.
Their bowlers struggled to contain PBKS, especially during the powerplay and middle overs. Even a brief period of wickets, including the dismissals of Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly, failed to halt PBKS’ progress.
Punjab’s depth and aggressive approach ensured they stayed ahead of the required rate throughout the chase.
What this means
Punjab Kings’ continued success in chasing large totals highlights their strength in high-pressure situations and aggressive batting approach.
For Chennai Super Kings, back-to-back defeats raise concerns, particularly around their bowling attack’s ability to defend competitive totals on favourable surfaces.
