Fakhar Zaman Appeal Rejected as PSL Ban Upheld
The Pakistan Super League Technical Committee has rejected Fakhar Zaman’s appeal against his suspension, confirming the two-match ban imposed earlier. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that the appeal was reviewed and dismissed following a full hearing process.
PSL Technical Committee upholds decision
Fakhar Zaman’s appeal was heard by the PSL Technical Committee, which included Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband and Syed Ali Naqi.
After reviewing all available evidence and hearing submissions from relevant individuals, the committee upheld the two-match suspension originally imposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama.
According to the PCB statement, the committee conducted a de novo inquiry before reaching its decision to dismiss the appeal.
Details of the offence
Fakhar Zaman was charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The charge related to an alleged breach of Article 41.3 of the playing conditions, which prohibits altering the condition of the ball.
The incident took place during Lahore Qalandars’ PSL 11 match against Karachi Kings on March 29.
Match referee Roshan Mahanama had initially imposed the two-match ban after conducting a disciplinary hearing, reviewing evidence, and providing Fakhar with the opportunity for a personal hearing.
Incident during Karachi Kings clash
The controversy arose during the closing stages of the match when on-field umpires Faisal and Sharfuddoula inspected the ball and concluded that its condition had been altered.
As a result, Lahore Qalandars were penalised five runs.
The penalty significantly impacted the match situation, reducing Karachi Kings’ target from 14 runs to nine in the final over. Karachi went on to chase the revised target comfortably with three balls to spare.
Player response and appeal
Fakhar Zaman denied the allegations throughout the disciplinary process and requested a full hearing under the PSL Code of Conduct.
Despite his appeal, the PSL Technical Committee upheld the original ruling, confirming that the suspension will stand.
What this means
The decision reinforces the PSL’s strict stance on maintaining the integrity of the game and enforcing its Code of Conduct.
For Lahore Qalandars, Fakhar Zaman’s absence for two matches is a significant setback, while the ruling highlights the league’s commitment to disciplinary consistency in high-profile incidents.
