Sahibzada Farhan Century Seals Sultans Win Over Kingsmen

Sahibzada Farhan celebrates century in PSL match for Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans chased down a daunting target of 226 to defeat Hyderabad Kingsmen with eight balls to spare, powered by a match-winning century by Sahibzada Farhan who’s innings proved decisive as his unbeaten 106 off 57 balls guided Sultans to a six-wicket victory.

His knock featured eight sixes and seven fours, with the final six sealing the result, overshadowing explosive efforts from Kingsmen’s Maaz Sadaqat and Sharjeel Khan.

Farhan and Smith set up record chase

Chasing 226, Farhan and Steven Smith laid the foundation with a dominant century partnership, the third of PSL 2026. The pair raced to 100 in just 7.1 overs, with their half-century stand coming in only 3.4 overs.

After a quiet opening over from Maheesh Theekshana, Smith launched the counterattack by striking Riley Meredith for a four and six, before taking on Saim Ayub for consecutive sixes. Farhan then accelerated, hitting Hassan Khan and Theekshana for three sixes and three fours across two overs.

Farhan also benefited from a dropped catch by Irfan Khan Niazi shortly after reaching his fifty off 25 balls, a moment that proved costly for Kingsmen.

Kingsmen miss key chances

Hyderabad Kingsmen missed further opportunities in the field. In the 14th over, Usman Khan failed to complete a stumping chance against Shan Masood, who capitalised by scoring 16 runs off the next three deliveries before being dismissed by Ayub.

Any hopes of a comeback faded in the following over when Farhan attacked Marnus Labuschagne, striking two sixes and a four in a 21-run over to bring the target down to 38 from 30 balls.

Kingsmen post strong total but fall short

Earlier, Kingsmen produced a strong batting display after opting to bat first, though the decision was later affected by heavy dew.

Saim Ayub and Maaz Sadaqat provided a rapid start, taking the side to 74 for 1 in the powerplay, the third-highest of the season. Sadaqat hammered 62 off 26 balls, including five sixes and five fours, while Usman Khan added 25 with three sixes in a single over from Momin Qamar.

Sharjeel Khan marked his PSL return after three years with an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls. He dominated the 18th over, hitting Shehzad Gul for 30 runs, including three sixes and two fours, as the bowler struggled with a wet ball and conceded two waist-high full tosses.

Despite multiple contributions, Kingsmen’s total proved insufficient against a clinical chase.

Match conditions favour batters

The surface used for the contest had already hosted two matches and offered ideal conditions for batting. It was dry and flat, with just enough grass to ensure consistent bounce, allowing batters to play freely across the line.

What this means

Multan Sultans’ successful chase of 226 underlines their strong form, lifting them to the top of the table after two wins from two matches.

For Hyderabad Kingsmen, the defeat extends their difficult start, leaving them at the bottom with three losses in as many games. The result highlights the importance of taking key chances and maintaining control in high-scoring contests.
