PSL 11 to Be Held in Karachi and Lahore Without Fans
PSL 11 venues decision has been confirmed, with the Pakistan Super League set to be played only in Karachi and Lahore and without spectators, according to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has scaled back its original plans for the 11th edition of the tournament following a joint meeting with franchise owners and consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Patron-in-Chief.
Initially, six cities — Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore — were listed as potential venues. However, the tournament has now been restricted to just two cities, with all matches to be staged in Karachi and Lahore.
Major operational changes confirmed
The PCB has also cancelled the opening ceremony as part of efforts to streamline operations.
Naqvi stated that discussions around the PSL had been ongoing for several days, adding that despite uncertainty around the current situation, hosting the tournament remains essential due to its international stature and the involvement of overseas players.
He confirmed that the PSL 11 will begin as scheduled on March 26, explaining that postponement was not feasible due to the lack of a future window.
A revised schedule has been prepared to minimise team travel during the tournament.
Matches to be played behind closed doors
In a significant blow for fans, the initial matches will take place without spectators at the two venues.
The PCB has announced that ticket holders will be eligible for refunds and issued an apology for the inconvenience caused.
Naqvi also highlighted adjustments in staffing arrangements, noting that full-time PCB staff will not attend the PSL, while part-time staff will continue working with teams.
The cancellation of the opening ceremony is also expected to reduce costs.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer echoed the chairman’s stance, reiterating that all stakeholders are keen for the tournament to proceed.
Tournament structure remains unchanged
As per the previously announced format, each team will play 10 matches, with the top four advancing to the playoffs.
The playoff stage will include Qualifier 1, Eliminator and Qualifier 2, followed by the final scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 3, with a reserve day set for May 4.
PSL 11 will feature six double-headers, including three at Gaddafi Stadium.
Originally, Lahore was set to host 15 matches, Rawalpindi 11, Faisalabad seven, Karachi six, Multan four and Peshawar one — a day game between Peshawar Zalmi and Pindiz on March 28 at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.
However, under the revised plan, matches will now be limited to Karachi and Lahore only.
